About Rainbow City Taxis
Rainbow City Taxis is an established local taxi firm based in Aberdeen which has been successfully run for the past 28 years. We are based in a purpose built office in the West Tullos area of Aberdeen, with approximately 400 vehicles ranging from regular saloon cars to 7 seat passenger vehicles. Rainbow has over 500 corporate account customers including the major oil service companies.
Rainbow was born on the 4th July 1983 and started out with only 10 cars. All hires were booked and dispatched by drivers. By 1984 the business had expanded and 4 telephonists were employed along with 4 dispatchers, the office was manned by one telephonist and 1 dispatcher all week with the exception of Friday and Saturday nights when there would be 2 telephonists to cope with the busier times. In 1986 the business had expanded so much that new premises we required the staff level doubled. In 1989 an extra employee was now required to call customers to let them know their taxi was arriving, it was this same year that the business was sold to Bill West.
In April 1998 Rainbow moved office again and installed a fully automatic dispatch system provided and serviced by Auriga called Sirius, all vehicles were fitted with CT3000 data units which received the information of taxi bookings from the dispatch system in the office. In April 2000 Rainbow took another major step and went fleet wide with GPS Tracking, which allowed our dispatchers to be able to locate any of our taxis at any given time, the following year in 2001 Rainbow moved from their office in East Tullos to the purposed built offices in West Tullos and installed the fully automated Callback facility, this service was and still is available to any land line or mobile number to inform our customers of their taxi's imminent arrival. In May 2004 Rainbow became the first company in Scotland and the fourth worldwide to upgrade our Sirius system to the new Auriga Evo system which provided a lot more information to the telephonists and dispatchers at the touch of a button. In May 2008 came the upgrade of the data unit for the vehicles (again fleet wide), they are a more modern machine and again, give the drivers access to more information. February 2009 saw the launch of Text back, again another way of Rainbow informing customers of their taxis arrival, the text back service is activated by the driver and is sent from our server to the customers phone informing them of their taxis make, model, colour and registration, this service has proved to be very popular with customers out in town on a busy evening when everyone is looking for their taxi! This very useful service costs the recipient a mere 15pence. In August 2009 Rainbow went fleet wide with Chip & Pin, a hand held Chip & Pin terminal was allocated to each of our drivers which they must carry in their car with them at all times when they are on shift. The idea behind this was for ease of payment for our customers. All of the above have been a complete success and an asset to Rainbow making them Aberdeen's Premier Taxi provider.
Our call centre at Rainbow is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year. We have over 25 employees that are fully trained that work in our call centre. Our call centre is supervised day and night by 8 Control Room Supervisors. At busy periods we have up to 12 members of staff answering calls to meet the demand of our customers. Our employees in our call centre are protected by cctv and all calls made to and from the call centre are recorded.
At our office there is a drivers' facility with snack and beverage vending machines.
As a professional company Rainbow has a strict dress code that our drivers must abide by. Portraying and maintaining a professional image is vital to Rainbow and its reputation.
